From elegant elements to personalization to uniqueness, these trends will provide you with a curated look that will surely bring the perfect refresh to your home.
1. Modern Farmhouse
We’re going to kick it off with one of our favorite interior design trends, modern farmhouse! From warm wooden beams to simple geometric shapes to the warmest herringbone floor design. Mixing and matching natural textures with rustic touches throughout your home will be sure to create a cozy and inviting space that will make you feel like you are on cloud nine.
Pops of darker colors, such as a moody wall or painted door, help to add just the right amount of contrast to the warmth.
2. The Cozy Coast
After 2020 we think it’s safe to say that everyone wants a tropical vacation somewhere, right? This laid-back beachy interior design trend is by far one of my wife’s favorites. Being avid travelers ourselves, these subtle monotones, pops of tropical leaves and florals, and beechwood furniture statements are sure to bring back memories of calm and relaxing vacations.
Exploring spaces that reflect our travels, the sea and distant shores put us in a space of feeling calm while also being able to recharge and relax.
3. Moody Tones
This interior design trend is so sophisticated and rich and we are here for it! When it comes to trends, there are so many colors that are popular, but people are slowly starting to experiment with untraditional shades, such as more earthy tones. The rise of these moody colors help create a dynamic and modern space.
When experimenting with deep blues, greens and browns, you begin to create a space that elevates the experience of being in that room, a space that is sure to leave an impression on anyone who experiences it.
4. Greenery
Green thumb? Interior design trends that aren’t paint or tile? Yes! Plants are making a huge fashion statement when it comes to dressing up your home. These beautiful blooms not only bring vibrancy and color to your space but they also freshen the air and filter out pollutants - a true two for one!
With these green beauties making a huge comeback, consider slowly adding greenery throughout your home. And be sure to look into your local community and the many passionate plant people out there. Not only will they educate you on how to take care of your plants but they are a huge community of sharing. You’d be surprised how often people share their extra plants…ask my wife and her 35 plants in our house ;)
5. Warm Colors
Wether it’s winter or summer, warmer colors create a welcoming and bright space for your family and guests. The use of oranges, whites and warmer wood tones is something we can expect to see more and more of with this rising interior design trend. These colors are also paired well with those deeper, darker colors such as gray, navy or dark greens, adding the perfect amount of depth to any space.
Using these elements subtly throughout your house, through shelving, hood accents or flooring, can quickly warm up a space and create an instant brightness to any room.
6. Wallpaper Accent
If this interior design trend isn’t a splash of fun then we don’t know what is! Wallpaper accents have been a pretty popular trend the past few years and we don’t think they are going anywhere soon. This unique treatment to a powder bath or accent wall in your living room can add just the right amount of edginess while creating a unified focal point to any room.
We like to say that it gives your space a designer look without that long-term commitment, which is a win-win in our eyes!
7. Ocean Hues
When we think of the ocean one of our first memories of it is the relaxing, teal blues that offer a calm and contemporary look. These tranquil colors remind us of beach getaways and provide a sense of peace, calm and comfort. Bring that same feeling of calm and comfort into your home through painted accent walls, furniture or decor.
This interior design trend is so unexpected and offers such a richness to any space, not to mention, always taking us back to the cool sea breeze and refreshing ocean mist.
8. Gold Accents
If you’re at all following along with current interior design trends then you’ve already jumped on this one by filling your space with gold or brass accents.
These once dated accents were seen throughout our mom or grandma’s homes and we could hardly stand them. However, their comeback is more subtle and doesn’t feel too over the top. Touches of gold or brass through hardware, mirrors, decor or furniture pieces brings warmth and richness to a room while adding the perfect amount of glam.
P.S. don’t be afraid to mix metals (another interior design trend that we didn’t touch on but we get asked about a lot)! With gold becoming more trendy, you don’t need to ditch all of your other metallic finishes in your home. Mixing metals is totally a thing and can work in any space!
9. Boho + Chic Inspired
This 1970’s interior design trend is back and taking all sorts of different forms. Natural elements, layered textiles and a more casual, warm feel is exactly what you’ll get with this trend.
To dress your room up with this 70’s look think woven materials like rattan furniture, pampas grasses, jute rugs and deep rich colors such as burnt oranges or deep yellows. Then add a few modern touches to the space and you’ve got yourself this boho inspired space!
10. Natural Elements + Textures
And last but certainly not least, incorporating textures such as the elements we see in nature is another hot interior design trend for 2021.
Walls with paint are just not cutting it anymore. Being stuck at home all of 2020 has increased the urge for people to spruce up their spaces and what better way than to explore textures like brick, stone and cement. These striking additions to a wall or sink can take a room from ordinary to extraordinary.
Although there are tons of interior design trends out there, we’ve found these to be some of the more popular ones for the year ahead. We’ll continue to follow these trends throughout the year and be sure to provide you with anything else that makes it’s way onto this list. Tell us in the comments which interior design trend is your favorite or if we’ve left one off the list.
